InfoMedics Launches Adherence Driver™, the First Targeted, Brand-Specific Patient Adherence Solution

InfoMedics to demonstrate program at 5th Annual Patient Adherence & Persistence Summit USA, October 23-24, Boston, MA; Chief Medical Officer Dr. Stanley Wulf to give solo and panel presentations about adherence

READING, MA – InfoMedics, Inc., the patient feedback company, today announced the launch of a unique solution to the adherence problem: Adherence DriverTM, the first brand-specific adherence program to conduct a detailed analysis of each patient's unique behavioral challenges and address them head on, while connecting them back to their prescribing physician. InfoMedics defines adherence as a patient consistently taking a prescription medicine exactly as directed by their doctor. It encompasses both compliance (following a given prescription's dosing schedule and administration instructions) and persistence (taking a prescribed medicine consistently over time).

"To date, the pharmaceutical industry's substantial investments in trying to solve nonadherence have been at best ineffective and at times even counterproductive," said Dr. Stanley Wulf, MD, vice president and chief medical officer for InfoMedics. "The fact is, about 20 percent of patients will effectively comply with a medication regimen if their physician asks them to and another 20 percent will not, no matter what steps are taken. Pharma needs to focus on the remaining 60 percent: patients whose path towards nonadherence can be halted with the right education, motivation and monitoring."

Adherence Driver is designed to help modify patient behavior, improving adherence to brand-specific medication regimens. Several features set Adherence Driver apart from the traditional, ineffective approaches:

  • Patient segmentation to maximize impact
    • Resources are directed only at the 60 percent of patients where impact can be maximized
    • Individualized adherence history assessment addresses both types of potential adherence barriers:
      • Revealed: presented to the patient, who then determines if it has been a problem, such as concern about side effects
      • Derived: rooted in motivation and confidence, life situations that make adherence difficult such as cognitive impairments
  • Holistic, content- and issue-based approach rather than an individual tool
    • Other adherence "programs" are actually narrowly focused initiatives that emphasize the tool (e.g., patient education, prescription reminders, incentives)
  • Flexible implementations that adjust to condition- and medication-
    specific needs
  • Closes the loop between patients and physicians by providing individual patient feedback reports directly to prescribing physician

InfoMedics will be demonstrating Adherence Driver at booth No. 21 at the 5th Annual Patient Adherence & Persistence Summit USA, October 23-24 at the Hyatt Harborside in Boston, MA. In addition, Dr. Wulf will present "Five Key Features that Make Adherence Programs Work" at 10:10am on Thursday, October 23, and will take part in a panel presentation, "Enough Talk about Adherence: Time for Action," at 4:30pm on Friday, October 24. "Adherence has been a persistent problem for the healthcare industry and it is being compounded by the current economic situation. Recent data shows consumers cutting back the number of prescription drugs they take or the dosage of those medications to make the prescription last longer, both of which practices can be highly dangerous for patients," said Gene Guselli, co-founder, president and CEO of InfoMedics. "What's needed is a tangible, effective program that will help minimize the impact of nonadherence across the healthcare spectrum: on pharmaceutical manufacturers, prescribing physicians and most of all patients. InfoMedics developed Adherence Driver to meet these challenges and we are already seeing it deliver on its early promise."

In a test case with a top 20 US pharmaceutical company with a cholesterol lowering medication, InfoMedics' targeted approach to adherence produced measurable results:

  • Significantly more InfoMedics patients filled the first prescription
  • More than twice as many InfoMedics patients stayed adherent through the 6th refill
  • In addition, NRx (new prescriptions) increased 11% among physicians with participating patients compared to controls
  • $5.5 million estimated incremental revenue generated by participating physicians and patients over 6 mos.
